Goa observed a day-long state mourning on Tuesday as a mark of respect to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha, who died in Chennai late on Monday.
A government spokesperson said the national flag was flown at half mast at the state Secretariat and other official buildings in Goa.
Chief Minister Lamxikant Parsekar said he was shocked at Jayalalithaa's death.
"She was a strong lady. I hope the Almighty gives her family, friends and followers the strength to bear the loss of the most popular Chief Minister in the country," Parsekar told reporters.
