Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday asked his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Nabam Tuki to take immediate steps to defuse tension along the inter-state border, triggered by the killing of a man.
Some armed people from Arunachal on Wednesday killed a person named Kaloi Orang in the Behali reserve forest located along the inter-state border in Assam's Sonitpur district.
Local people on Friday protested against the killing and the district administration's failure to provide security to people living along the inter-state border areas.
In a telephonic talk, Gogoi asked Tuki to initiate necessary steps to defuse the escalating tension and to bring the situation under control.
Gogoi said both the states must work in tandem to instil confidence among the people living along the border.
Chief Minister Tuki assured Gogoi that his government would take all possible steps to bring the situation under control and to apprehend the culprits.
In 2014, at least 10 people were killed and 12 injured in the district after clashes broke out over alleged encroachment of land in the district by people from Arunachal Pradesh.
