European golf legend Colin Montgomerie will be in the capital next week at the Delhi Golf Club (DGC) for a two-day visit which will include an inter-school tournament, junior clinic and charity fundraiser.
"India, like China has a huge potential for growth of golf and producing champions. This Hero Cycles Junior initiative will go a long way to incentivising juniors to strive towards becoming champions and I am committed to supporting Hero Cycles effort. Really looking forward to meeting the youngsters at the Delhi Golf Club and boosting the interest in golf any way I can," said Montgomerie in a statement Wednesday.
"Golf tournaments including many on the USPGA and European Professional Tours have been successfully raising funds for charitable causes for many years and it has been my privilege to be involved with a number of these. For me it's very satisfying if in some way my appearance in India helps raise funds for charities doing good work," added Montgomerie whose appearance is helping raise funds for underprivileged kids at the Hero Cycles Golf Cup in Delhi.
The clinic and "Becoming a Champion" interaction by Montgomerie at DGC is open to other junior golfers also. The clinic will feature 10-15 kids from the DGC's 'Talent Spotting Program' for children of DGC staff. Among the top juniors participating are nationally ranked Seher Atwal, Adil Bedi, Shubham Narain, Gaurika Bishnoi, Nishtha Madan including the 10-year old golf prodigy Shubham Jaglan of Delhi.
Among schools being represented in the Hero Cycles Golf Cup are The Doon School (Dehradun), Sanskriti (Delhi), Cathedral and John Connon (Mumbai), St. John High School (Chandigarh), Modern, Barakhamba Road (Delhi), Vasant Valley (Delhi), The Shriram School, Aravali (Gurgaon), Delhi Public School (Gurgaon), Army Public School (Delhi) to name a few.
