The government will improve efficiency of tax administration and take all necessary steps to make it more industry-friendly, Revenue Secretary Sumit Bose said Wednesday.
Addressing the first Global Tax Summit, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, Bose said several steps have been taken by the finance ministry to address the concerns of the investor community.
"As per law, we will go for revenue, but what is due, we will do as per rules," Bose told the gathering assuring that the government would make sure that only whatever is due is being collected from the industry.
Chairperson of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Sudha Sharma emphasised the need for more clarity and stability in the tax regime in order to inspire investors' confidence.
Sharma claimed that the finance ministry has taken various steps to establish a "non-intrusive, non-interfering and assessee-friendly" tax system.
