Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi here on Tuesday slammed the Chhattisgarh and central governments for taking a lead in exploiting farmers but lagging behind in ensuring their development.
Speaking on the last day his two-day visit to the state, Gandhi said the kind of development taking place in Chhattisgarh is neither benefitting the farmers nor the ordinary people except some industrialists.
Stating that the Congress wanted a development which ensured development of farmers and general public, Gandhi said: "I have come here to take a vow that no farmer's land will be taken for free."
He was speaking after undertaking a five-km walkathon and interacting with some people affected by Polavaram bridge and government programmes. People at various places told the Congress leader about their plight under the Raman Singh-led Chhattisgarh government.
