Retired Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal, who committed suicide over OROP, made a last call to his younger son Balvinder in Haryana, telling him that he was a man of principles.

Sitting in India Gate lawns, Grewal told his younger son on Tuesday afternoon that he had consumed three-four tablets of a poisonous substance.

He also told his son that he had been a man of principles throughout life and did not want to bend.

"I am sitting near India Gate and have consumed three to four tablets to commit suicide. I have just consumed them 15 minutes ago," Grewal told Balvinder.

Grewal, who was headman of Bamla Village of Bhiwani district in Haryana, also told his son that he had successfully undertaken many developmental works for the welfare of villagers as headman.

Grewal was declared brought dead on arrival by doctors at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

He was visiting Jantar Mantar with three other associates to hold a protest against non implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) sixth and seventh Pay Commission recommendation.

His older son is called Jaswant.
