A grievance committee, headed by the dean students welfare, has been constituted in view of the Delhi University (DU) Students Union election-process gaining momentum.

"A grievance committee, headed by the dean students welfare, has been constituted for clarification and smooth functioning of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU)elections," said DU chief election commissioner Asish Vohra.

The elections are scheduled Sep 13.

The colleges and the department concerned have also been directed to install closed-circuit television camera to videograph the entry and exit points during the elections.

"The varsity has also put a cap of Rs.5,000 on the permitted expenditure per candidate. Further, a candidate can only use handmade posters at certain designated places on the campus, to be notified by the university authority in advance," added Vohra.

Realising the importance of social networking, the varsity has also allowed a one-page profile of the student contesting election to be uploaded on Facebook and the DU election website. It can be done only on approval of the screening and scrutiny committee, to be constituted by the election commissioner.

"Each candidate contesting for DUSU office-bearer post will be provided a slot of 10 minutes on the university community radio," he said.

The university has also enforced and warned students of disqualification and criminal punishment for not adhering to the Code of Conduct, Lyngdoh Committee guidelines and the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007.
