A gunfight broke out between separatist guerrillas and security forces on Tuesday evening in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district after the latter surrounded a village where some militants were hiding, police said.
"Following specific information about the presence of a group of militants, security forces surrounded Gadoora village in Pulwama. As the cordon was tightened, hiding militants opened indiscriminate automatic gunfire, triggering a gunfight which is going on," a police officer told IANS.
Earlier on Tuesday, guerrillas had fired at an army patrol in Dardpora village of Kupwara district after which a cordon and search operation was launched there by the security forces.
There has been no trace of these guerrillas so far.
