A man was detained Saturday for questioning in connection with his elderly mother's death after her brother accused him and his wife of murdering her, police said.
Sheela Devi, 62, was found dead in her house here in Arjun Nagar area Saturday.
"Prima facie it looks that she may have been strangulated to death but we are waiting for post-mortem report," a senior police officer told IANS.
"Ashok, the deceased's son, was detained and we are grilling him," he said.
The woman's brother Subhash complained to police that his sister was murdered by Ashok and his wife for property.
Ashok and his wife were living on the first floor of the house while his mother lived on ground floor. He tried to cremate her remains but the body was sent for post-mortem investigation after police intervened.
The family often fought over property, police said.
