The first construction and demolition waste processing plant of Haryana will be set up in Gurugram, adjoining national capital Delhi, to make the city debris-free.
The processing plant will be set up in over three acres in village Basai of Gurugram at a cost of about Rs 13 crore to make the city debris-free, a state government spokesman said here on Monday.
"The plant would have capacity to process 300 tonnes of waste per day," the spokesman said, adding that plant would be constructed and operated by IL and FS Company.
The company has assured to start production at the plant by the end of this year.
"The Municipal Corporation would earmark different sites for dumping of construction and demolition waste. The company would lift the debris from these places and bring it to the plant, where it would be used for making cement bricks, block tiles, tiles and other products," he said.
He said that the quantity of construction and demolition waste had increased in Gurugram due to rapid urbanisation and development of infrastructure, and it was expected to increase by 10 per cent every year.
"As there is no scientific system in place for processing of the waste, it is being dumped on roadsides, in the Aravalli area or reaches landfill mixed with garbage. This results in blockage of drains, besides air and water pollution," he added.
