Noted social activist Anna Hazare on Thursday said he had high hopes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi but was disappointed after his three-and-a-half-years in office.
Addressing a public rally at Chamba in Tehri Garhwal district, Hazare blamed the Central government for the pitiable condition of farmers across the country.
"When Modi became the Prime Minister, I harboured a lot of hope. I thought good days were ahead, but now I am disappointed," he said.
For this reason, he said, I would soon begin an agitation against the Union government and seek the support of Uttarakhand.
The Gandhian also said that so far he had remained quiet as he wanted the Central government to get time for bringing a turnaround in the fortunes of the people.
But now, he rued, almost three-fourths of the tenure of Modi had passed and he had been forced to start the agitation out of disappointment.
He also demanded Rs 5,000 pension for the farmers on the lines of retired government servants and officials.
For all such issues, I will start an agitation on March 23 at Ramlila Ground in Delhi, the octogenarian announced at the rally held in VC Gabbar Singh Negi Square.
