Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary, who has been member of several parliamentary committees, Tuesday took charge as minister of state in the home ministry.
Chaudhary was welcomed at his North Block office by Home Secretary Anil Goswami and briefed by senior official in the ministry.
The 60-year-old Gujarat based politician called on Home Minister Rajnath Singh and also attended an official meeting immediately after his joining.
Chaudhary, who has represented Banaskantha constituency of Gujarat in the Lok Sabha four times, was among the 21 ministers who took oath Sunday at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
He is a Mumbai University graduate.
