Veteran Hollywood actor Harrison Ford, who crash-landed his World War II era aircraft in a golf course here, reportedly broke his ankle and pelvis, and underwent surgery.

The actor's single-engine plane crash-landed in a Santa Monica golf course Thursday and he was taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery about four hours after the incident, a source close to the family told TV station KTLA, reports aceshowbiz.com.

The "Star Wars" actor experienced engine failure about 20 minutes after taking off from Santa Monica Municipal Airport and requested an emergency return to the airport. He fell short of reaching the runway and crashed-landed the aircraft in a nearby golf course.

His vintage World War II training plane hit a tree on the way down, preventing it from going into a nose-dive. Doctors who were playing golf at the time rushed to his rescue and pulled him out of the wreckage when they smelled fuel, out of fear it might explode.

The actor will make a full recovery, according to his representative.
