A specially trained police commando unit would be raised and deputed for safety and security of the national capital region (NCR), especially Gurgaon, to tackle situations like those seen during the 26/11 Mumbai attack, the Haryana police chief said Thursday.

Director General of Police S.N. Vashisht said that the commando unit will be trained and assigned duties in the NCR.

Gurgaon, adjoining national capital New Delhi, is a leading commercial, information technology (IT) and industrial hub of north India. It has several corporate offices, including those of leading MNCs, IT offices and industrial units, and lakhs of people work in Gurgaon and adjoining areas.

The DGP said that a state level empowered committee has approved Rs.650 crore for the modernization of Haryana Police in coming two years. This will include modernization of police stations.

Haryana Police have submitted a 10-year policing plan to the state government.
