In a successful inter-city coordinated effort, a heart harvested from a brain dead woman in Bangalore was flown in here to be transplanted in a patient in a private hospital.
The city traffic police created the green corridor so that the harvested heart could quickly be transported from the airport to the hospital.
"The flight from Bangalore landed here around 4.25 p.m. The waiting ambulance left the airport premises and reached the hospital's surgery ward in around 10 minutes travelling around 12 km," an official said.
It is learnt the transplant took around four hours and the patient's condition is stable.
