African-American actress Taraji P. Henson says people need to stop using "black and white" labels, and change the narrative.
In an interview with Rhapsody magazine, Henson explained the need for new conversations and representation for people of colour on and off screen, reports dailymail.co.uk.
"We need to change the narrative. Can we stop saying black and white? We get caught up on labels," said Henson.
"Whatever happened to good material? I don't go to the theatre and say, 'Hmm, do I feel like seeing a white movie this weekend?'"
Henson starred as NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson in "Hidden Figures" alongside Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae, which grossed $230.5 million worldwide and earned three Academy Award nominations.
Born to a department store manager and a janitor in Washington, DC, the Golden Globe-winning star got her first big break opposite musician Tyrese in the 2001 film "Baby Boy". She is also known for TV series "Empire".
