Higher arrival of paddy has been recorded in grain markets in Haryana this year compared to last year, an official said Sunday.
"Arrival of paddy is fast picking up in the mandis of Haryana as compared to the corresponding period last year - 59 percent more paddy has already arrived during the current season," said a spokesman of the state food and supplies department.
Over 6.45 lakh tonnes of paddy has so far arrived in Haryana marketsduring the current procurement season as compared to 4.03 lakh tonnes procured in the corresponding period last year. Most of the paddy has been procured by government agencies.
The spokesman said that Kurukshetra district was leading in the paddy arrival, followed by Karnal and Ambala.
Nearly 52 lakh tonnes of paddy is expected to arrive in grain markets in Haryana this year. The procurement process started Oct 1 across the state.
