Italian football side Napoli's forward Gonzalo Higuain is currently leading the race for the European Golden Shoe -- an award presented each season to the leading goal scorer in league matches from the top division of every European national league.
Higuain, former striker of Spanish giants Real Madrid, took the lead with 20 goals scored, after netting a double in Sunday's Serie A clash against Sassuolo, reaching an overall score of 40 points, reports Efe.
The Argentine striker took advantage of the winter pause in Bundesliga to surpass Borussia Dortmund's French-born Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who comes in second on the list of the Golden Shoe standings with 18 goals and 36 points.
FC Barcelona Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez and the Brazilian Jonas Goncalves of Benfica also share the second place with Aubameyang.
