Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh Monday congratulated Narendra Modi on becoming the prime minister.

Virbhadra Singh, who did not attend the swearing-in ceremony of the prime minister and his ministers, expressed hope that Modi would come up to the expectations of the people of the country.

He said Modi was well aware of the problems of Himachal Pradesh and its topography.

"We express hope that Himachal Pradesh would get special central assistance and other due shares during his stint as the Prime Minister," the chief minister said in a statement.
