The Himachal Pradesh High Court Thursday granted anticipatory bail to a former BJP legislator booked for sexually assaulting a woman two years ago.
Justice Sanjay Karol, in his interim order, granted bail to Baldev Sharma till April 17, the next date of hearing.
Sharma was Tuesday booked by police in Shimla on a complaint by the woman who said she was sexually exploited by the Bharatiya Janata Party leader in March 2012. Sharma was then a sitting legislator from Badsar in Hamirpur district.
Superintendent of Police Abhishek Dullar said the woman claimed she had approached the legislator for the transfer of her husband.
She said Sharma called her to his residence in Shimla and sexually assaulted her.
