Large parts of Himachal Pradesh reeled under severe cold Wednesday with the minimum temperature staying below the freezing point in many areas. But no major snowfall has been reported in the past 24 hours across the state.
Bharmour in Chamba district was the coldest place with the minimum temperature at minus 7.1 degrees Celsius.
Most of the high-altitude areas in the district experienced extremely cold conditions with mercury staying five to 10 degrees Celsius below the freezing point, an official at the meteorological department here told IANS.
The night temperature in capital Shimla was 4.7 degrees Celsius, whereas it was 3.6 degrees in Manali, 6.6 degrees in Dharamsala, and minus 1.8 degrees in Kalpa in Kinnaur district.
Heavy snow is likely at some places till Thursday morning.
