Uttar Pradesh experienced a chilly Wednesday morning led by sporadic rain along with icy winds. The Met Office has forecast a cloudy day ahead.
The change in weather comes on a day when primary schools in the state capital reopen after a month-long extended winter vacations.
According to the Met Department, low pressure depression forming over Rajasthan is the cause for this weather change and the condition is likely to continue for another two days.
The minimum temperature in Lucknow Tuesday was recorded at 7.1 degrees Celsius, one notch below the season's average, while the maximum temperature was 21.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average.
Regional Met Director J.P. Gupta said parts of western Uttar Pradesh are likely to witness squall and hailstorms.
Nazibabad in Bijnore district remained the coldest at 4.8 degrees Celsius Tuesday, followed by Etawah district, where mercury dropped to 5.2 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, train services continued to remain hit by fog and poor visibility as over 18 trains were running behind schedule.
The trains include Saryu-Yamuna Express, Farakka Express, Avadh-Assam Express and Kumbh Express. Most of these trains were running 8-10 hours behind schedule.
However, there was no major disruption in air traffic barring a few delays.
