Himachal Pradesh Monday demanded funds from the central government for repairing highways damaged in the recent rains and for four-laning of the road that links Shimla to Kangra.
State Congress president Sukhvinder Singh raised the demand during his meeting with union Road Transport and Highways Minister Oscar Fernandes here.
He also demanded four-laning of the 197-km National Highway-88 which links the state capital to Kangra town. The road passes through six districts.
"Due to the rapid increase in the traffic, the NH-88 remains blocked at one point or the other. It needs to be four-laned to avoid traffic congestion," said the Congress president.
Fernandes, who was here to attend the Himachal Pradesh University's three-day foundation day function that began Monday, said a central team would visit the state July 25 to assess the damage to roads in last month's rain in Kinnaur district.
