Hong Kong, Nov 25 (IANS/TASS) Hong Kong authorities Tuesday started clearing more barricades in Mong Kok, in the western part of Kowloon peninsula, one of the key protest sites.
Police began dismantling wooden and metal barricades in an operation which has been ordered by Hong Kong's Supreme Court. The effort is expected to last for around two days.
Police have warned demonstrators that they would face arrest if they hindered the work. The protesters, who have been relatively calm, moved their tents and belongings to another area.
Hong Kong's Supreme Court has officially ruled that parts of roads and crossroads in a densely populated Mong Kong area be unblocked. The order comes following a lawsuit filed by a bus firm and two taxi companies, which have suffered loss amid traffic chaos.
Hong Kong, a former British colony, has been hit by protests for nearly two months, with demonstrators calling to revise the procedure approved by the parliament on holding elections of chief executive in 2017.
