Seven persons including two policemen died after consuming illicit liquor in Jharkhand's capital Ranchi, police said on Tuesday.
According to police, around 10 people consumed the illegally produced liquor after buying it from a shop located in Doranda area of the city.
The news of the first two deaths broke in the morning. Both the deceased belonged to the Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) and were identified as Mahadeo Mumru and Yogesh Chetri.
Later in the day, five more deaths were reported, taking the death toll to seven.
Police have detained three people in this connection and seized four cartons of liquor.
"The government will take stern action against those involved in such business," C.P. Singh, the state Urban Development Minister, told reporters.
