Hope we can do something special in last two days: Murali Vijay

With India ending the rain-hit third day at 462/6 in their first innings of the lone cricket Test against Bangladesh here on Friday, opener Murali Vijay hoped the team can do something special in the final two days to ensure a win for the visitors.

Vijay perished for 150 when he was adjudged leg-before off ace spinner Shakib Al Hasan (4/105).

"All we planned was to play positively and that's what we wanted to do throughout the day. But unfortunately, play couldn't take place for the whole day. I think we're in a good position now and hopefully we can do something special in the last two days," Vijay was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Following an uninterrupted morning session on Friday, heavy showers stopped play twice in the post-lunch session and then completely washed out the final session of play.

Should the Fatullah Test be drawn, India will slip a rung down from third to fourth in the ICC Test rankings.

"We cannot do much about the weather, because it's not in our hands. But yes, I was just thinking that we could have pushed the score a bit more looking at the weather conditions," he said.

"I thought we could have got to 260-270 on the first day, that would have been an ideal platform for us. But we are in a good position now," Vijay said.

Speaking on his batting, Vijay said: "To be honest, I was not batting at my best. I just wanted to adjust to the surface and not give my wicket away. That was my priority."

"After a point, I knew the bowlers would get tired and because they had four spinners, I wanted to cash in."
