With half of July over and no significant monsoon rain yet, the maximum temperature was recorded well up at 39 degrees Celsius - five notches above the season's average.
The Met Office has forecast a cloudy Wednesday with light rain and thunderstorms in some parts of the national capital.

Tuesday's minimum temperature was recorded at 28.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average.
The humidity wavered between 52 percent and 85 percent.
