Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi Tuesday said he was "by nature a hopeful man".
Modi told BJP MPs and other party leaders in parliament's Central Hall after being elected leader of the party's legislative wing: "I am by nature a hopeful man... I am a very hopeful man."
He said the people need to give up any sense of despondency they may be nurturing.
Modi said the Bharatiya Janata Party's comfortable win in the Lok Sabha election had forced the world to look at Indian democracy anew.
