Incessant rain on Sunday caused waterlogging in many parts of Delhi, crippling traffic movement -- But the monsoon showers also brought welcome cheer to those in a holiday mood.
"It rained for five to six hours in Delhi and till 11.30 a.m. around 35.8 mm rainfall was recorded in the city," said an official with the India Meteorological Department.
People were stranded on roads due to waterlogging. Two-wheeler riders took refuge under flyovers and foot-overbridges to escape being drenched in the rain.
"Continuous rain since early morning has almost inundated the entire area. I remained stranded near Adhchini red light for over half an hour due to the waterlogging," a commuter Suneel Dubey told IANS.
Traffic police officials said they received numerous complaints regarding waterlogging at various places in the city.
"Today we received 70-80 calls of waterlogging in Delhi. The worst hit areas in the city were Wazirabad to Bhajanpura Road in north Delhi, Moolchand in south Delhi, Baba Kharag Singh Marg in New Delhi, and Saket's Adhchini red-light in south Delhi, among others," a traffic department official told IANS.
"Waterlogging also occurred at various metro stations in the city including Mundka, Rithala, Laxmi Nagar, Nirman Vihar and Welcome," he said.
The minimum temperature settled at 25 degrees Celsius, one notch below the season's average.
