Film director Richie Mehtas "India in a Day" and Buddhadeb Dasguptas "Tope" will have their US premieres at the India Kaleidoscope Film Festival, to be held in New York next month.
The festival, scheduled for December 8-11, will showcase films in six different Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Manipuri, Tamil and Kannada, read a statement.
"India in a Day" will be the opening film, while "Tope" will bring the curtains down on the gala.
"India in a Day" is a documentary project initiated by Google and comprises images shot by thousands of people throughout India. The project is edited by Mehta and executive produced by Ridley Scott and Anurag Kashyap.
"We are thrilled to turn the spotlight on Indian regional cinema, showcasing its diversity and richness," said Christina Marouda, organiser of India Kaleidoscope Film Festival.
The films that will be screened at the festival include Priyarashan's "Sila Samayangalil" ("Sometimes"), Ananya Kasaravalli's "Harikatha Prasanga" ("Chronicles of Hari") paired with Girish Kasaravalli's "Ghatashraddha" ("The Ritual"), Bauddhayan Mukherji's "The Violin Player", Haobam Paban Kumar's "Loktak Lairembee" ("The Lady of the Lake") and Mangesh Joshi's "Lathe Joshi".
India Kaleidoscope Film Festival is a collaboration between the Museum of the Moving Image and The India Centre Foundation, which will present film lovers with a chance to immerse themselves in the unique sights and sounds that make up the Indian regional, independent film landscape.
The inaugural event, taking place at the Museum of the Moving Image, will feature eight films, including seven new titles that will be making their US or North American premieres and one special presentation of a classic Indian film.
