India rode on a superb bowling performance to put themselves in a strong position to win the ongoing second cricket Test against Australia at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Tuesday.
Chasing a target of 188 runs, Australia were in deep trouble, struggling at 101/6 at tea on the fourth day.
Peter Handscomb was batting on 19 when the teams went in at the break.
The Indians bowled superbly on a pitch which has developed quite a few cracks, making it difficult for batting.
Star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin did the most damage with figures of 3/35. Fast bowler Umesh Yadav displayed excellent speed and swing to return 2/26. Ishant Sharma bagged 1/28.
Brief scores:
Australia: 276 & 101/6 (Steven Smith 28, Peter Handscomb 19 batting, Ravichandran Ashwin 3/35, Umesh Yadav 2/26) vs India: 189 & 274 (Cheteshwar Pujara 92, Ajinkya Rahane 52, Lokesh Rahul 51; Josh Hazlewood 6/74).
