An Indian-Australian driver for global cab company Uber has denied charges of illegally operating a taxi on Monday.

Sukhwinder Singh, pleaded not guilty to allegations of using a vehicle as a taxi without authorisation and interfering with a surveillance unit at the Perth Magistrate's Court in Western Australia, reported WA Today online.

While Singh did not appear in person, his lawyer Peter Haag entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.

Singh is scheduled to appear in court on June 30 to determine when he will face trial.

Of the 20 Uber drivers charged with illegally operating taxis in the state of Western Australia, Singh is the first to face prosecution.
