Indian-origin girl saved from drowning in Australia

A six-year-old Indian-origin girl in Australia was pulled out from a swimming pool where her younger sister, then 15 months old, nearly drowned and sustained brain damage two years ago.

The incident happened at Winston Hills in Sydney Friday when the mother of the girl with her three daughters along with a relative were at the pool, the Sydney Morning Herald reported Sunday.

The six-year-old girl did not know swimming.

The girl's mother gave cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and admitted her immediately to a hospital.

She is now in stable condition and is expected to be sent home soon.

The father of the girl said hospital staff did not find any water in the girl's lungs adding that she might have had a mild seizure.

"It was bad luck she was in the pool when the episode happened," the father, who went by the surname Singh, was quoted as saying.

Earlier, the girl's younger sister, who is now three years old, went missing for 15 minutes before being found in the same pool two years ago. She had to be hospitalised for six weeks.

She is learning to walk again after having sustained a brain injury.
