The number of Indian tourists to Abu Dhabi grew by 32 percent in 2014 compared to the previous year, an official said here.
In 2014, Abu Dhabi received 231,702 Indian travellers, translating into 850,443 guest nights, with an average length of stay of 3.67 nights, said Bejan Dinshaw, country manager, Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority.
Known for its clear blue sky, sun and sand, Abu Dhabi is promoting itself as a "compelling" shopping destination and also for its water sports.
"Abu Dhabi is going to position itself as its most compelling shopping destination. The Yas mall is the largest in the region and provides a wonderful experience for the entire family for tax-free shopping," Dinshaw said Friday evening.
The tourism official was in Kolkata as part of a three-city workshop in India that began in Chandigarh Feb 2.
Dinshaw said Indian travellers - the leading source of market for the Gulf city - can enjoy a host of adventure sports as well.
He also spoke about the unique Ferrari World, the largest indoor and first such theme park, and said the Wadi Adventure Park was suitable for rafting, kayaking and surfing and a lot of water activities which come under the 'soft adventure' category.
It is also luring travellers to its numerous festivals such as the ongoing Abu Dhabi Food Festival.
