An Infosys employee taken hostage in a Sydney cafe has escaped after police stormed it early Tuesday, an Indian diplomat said.
"Yes, yes, he has escaped. It is good news," Deputy Consul General in Sydney Vinod Bahade told IANS over the telephone, referring to Ankireddy Vishwakant of Andhra Pradesh.
Bahade added that the hostage crisis had definitely ended.
"Yes, it is over. But police are still working to clear the area. We are in touch with the police and following the events closely," he said.
"We hope to be provided all the details tomorrow. Two people we heard have died and some are injured."
