Software major Infosys Ltd. Wednesday announced it has secured a contract to manage IT operations of Sweden's leading retailer ICA Gruppen.

"The deal is estimated to reduce costs for Gruppen in stages by Swedish Kroner 75 million ($9 million/Rs.56 crore) from 2016," the city-based company said in a statement.

As part of the deal, the company will provide services across application and infrastructure maintenance to drive operational efficiency and ensure IT projects add value to the retailer's business.

The deal also expands the partnership, with Gruppen doubling the percentage of IT operation and covering IT services, including IT infrastructure and IT support for its business unit - ICA Sweden.

"Our role as a services and transformation partner will see us revitalise the IT operations at Gruppen and bring new ideas to help it innovate," Infosys vice president Karmesh Vaswani said.

The IT outsourcing major will leverage its experience with world's leading retailers, banks and pharmacies to accelerate business value of Gruppen's diverse businesses.

"Our focus will be to help Gruppen renew its core operations and implement new capabilities in a cost-efficient manner," Vaswani added.

Gruppen chief finance officer Sven Lindskog said that with a skilled IT partner like Infosys, the retailer would create greater flexibility to meet its new business requirements and cope with rapid changes.
