Several parts of Odisha on Tuesday continued to reel under intense heat wave conditions with 10 places recording temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.
The state government has confirmed one death due to heatstroke.
While Malkangiri recorded the highest temperature of 42.8 degrees Celsius, Bhubaneswar, the state capital, crossed the 40-degree Celsius-mark for the first time this year. It recorded 40.6 degrees Celsius, said a bulletin from the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.
Western Odisha towns of Bolangir and Titlagarh recorded 41.7 and 41.5 degrees, respectively.
Deputy Special Relief Commissioner Prabhat Mohapatra said that out of 13 reported deaths, only one had been confirmed as sunstroke death so far.
Directions had been issued to all government hospitals to open sunstroke wards, he added.
Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar Met Centre Director Sarat Chandra Sahu has said that there is a possibility of low pressure over Bay of Bengal on April 14 or 15.
