Iran to stand with Syria in face of crisis

Damascus, April 22 (IANS) Iran has expressed its solidarity with Syria amid prevailing crisis, with the visiting national security head from Tehran assuring support to President Bashar al-Assad's efforts to handle "aggressive foreign policies".

Alaeddin Boroujerdi has arrived in Syria on a three-day visit to discuss prevailing situation with top Syrian officials including President Assad, Xinhua reported.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem accused "foreign powers" of targeting Syria's pivotal role in the region, as he met Boroujerdi Sunday.

Boroujerdi stressed that Iran stands alongside Syria with all its potentials to face the "conspiracy".

He said Iran supports the efforts exerted by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to face the "aggressive foreign policies, " stressing that Iran stands alongside Syria with all its potentials to face the "conspiracy."

Iran has emerged as a main regional ally of the Syrian government, whose officials have repeatedly stressed support for a political solution to end the Syrian crisis.
