Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi arrived in Syria Tuesday to discuss the recent developments in the region with top Syrian officials including President Bashar al-Assad, reported Xinhua citing well-informed sources.
After his visit to Jordan, Salehi is expected to meet Assad and other officials, the sources said.
Also, the pan-Arab al-Mayadeen TV said the visit of Salehi is to express Iran's "unlimited support" for the Syrian administration.
The Iranian official's visit came in the wake of the Israeli attack against Syria earlier in the week that targeted military sites in Damascus.
During his visit to Jordan Tuesday, Salehi warned that "if there is any vacuum in Syria, these negative consequences will affect all countries".
Salehi also stressed that the future of Syria could only be determined by Syrians without foreign intervention, calling on the opposition to embark on discussions with the current administration to form a provisional government.
The official visit to Jordan was reportedly aiming to convince Jordan not to give up to western pressure, especially after recent reports that Jordan was hosting US training camps for Syrian rebels on its territories, according to al-Mayadeen.
However, Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh stressed in a press conference Tuesday that his country has no foreign powers on its territories.
