The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) on Wednesday said it has introduced e-catering in 1,356 trains without pantry car.

Started in September 2014 in 14 trains on a trial basis, IRCTC has so far delivered 6,000 meals in various trains all over the country, it said in a statement.

Of the 6,000 meals delivered, only 350 meals were fast food while the rest were traditional Indian cuisine.

"IRCTC is committed to encouraging Indian food for railway passengers. Negotiations are in the final stages with a host of leading food chains and caterers like Bikanerwala, Punjabi Grill, Curry Kitchen, Idli.com, Biryani Bhai and Copper Chimney," the IRCTC statement said.

Passengers can order meals online on IRCTC's e-catering facility through www.ecatering.irctc.co.in or make a phone call to 0120-2383892-99/ 1800-1034-139 (toll free) or text their order to 139 by giving their ticket details.
