Jahan-e-Khusrau, the famous World Sufi Music Festival founded by filmmaker Muzaffar Ali and held under the aegis of Rumi Foundation, on Friday returned to the capital after a three year hiatus. The comeback editon not only mesmerised music lovers but also brought alive the finest voices of Sufism.
The three-day festival is dedicated to Hazrat Baba Fariduddin Ganjshakar - the patron saint of Punjab and the pir of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, whose disciple Amir Khusrau was.
The first day witnessed melodious performances by Nepali singer Ani Choying Drolma who performed along with Murad Ali from Delhi and Nirupam from Haryana's Karnal. Popular singer Malini Awasthi too made people fall in love with her music while Satinder Sartaj from Punjab also made left the audience asking for more.
"I am delighted to be bring the festival back after a break. Sufi saints knew the true love of egalitarian, inclusive world lead by the seamless love for the Lord. It's a message most relevant in today's world full of angst and strife. I am glad we can one again remember these Sufi saints and their enlightened view of life," said Ali.
Participants in previous editions have come from countries including the US, Canada, Germany, Italy, Morocco, Sudan, Egypt, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
