The Jharkhand assembly was disrupted on Wednesday over an anti-conversion law and amendments in the Land Acquisition Act 2013 by exempting the Social Impact Assessment for important social and economic projects.
When the house assembled at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the members of the Opposition parties came to the well shouting slogans, demanding the amendments in the CNT/SPT Acts be withdrawn, cancellation of legislation related to religious freedom and land acquisition amendment which are proposed to be brought in the house.
The Opposition members also raised the issue of the suicides by some farmers in the state.
Assembly Speaker Dinesh Oraon tried to pacify the Opposition members but in vain. The speaker then adjourned the house till noon. When the house reassembled, similar scenes were witnessed, forcing the speaker to adjourn the house till Thursday morning.
Later talking to reporters, Leader of Opposition and JMM Executive President Hemant Soren said: "Jharkhand Governor Draupdi Murmu returned the amendments in the CAT and SPT acts considering the protest and sentiment of the people. The state cabinet meet has approved to bring amendments in the Land Acquisition Act of 2013, which was also objected by several cabinet ministers of the state."
The Opposition also raised the need for bringing an anti-conversion law in the state.
