The O.P. Jindal Global University will host the Times Higher Education (THE) BRICS and Emerging Economies Global Academic Summit from December 1-3, a top functionary of the university said here on Friday.

"Times Higher Education has selected the International Institute for Higher Education Research and Capacity Building (IIHED) of O.P. Jindal Global University as its partner in hosting this year's Times Higher Education BRICS and Emerging Economies Global Academic Summit during 1-3 December 2015," university chancellor Naveen Jindal announced at the fourth convocation of the university, about 60 km from New Delhi.

The Times Higher Education (THE), United Kingdom's leading publication in the field of education, is a weekly magazine based in London, reporting specifically on news and issues related to higher education.

Supreme Court judge Justice Jasti Chelameswar, in his presidential address at the convocation, said: "Human society lives amidst conflicts, turmoil and destabilisation of system through unlawful activities.

"Law is imperative for its survival. Mere money making is not the only purpose of education. Human nature does not restrict to any code of conduct. Hence, the study of law becomes essential for honourable and peaceful society."

Nobel Peace Prize winner and child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi stressed on the need to safeguard child rights and underlined the need for prioritisation of children in public policies and laws.

"We must protect the dreams of millions of children. There is no bigger travesty than denying the dreams of our children. As young adults you must all demand that children be prioritized in our policies and enforcement of laws. An adult-centric development focuses only on the present, while child-centric development is aimed at the future," Satyarthi said in his address.
