Popes John XXIII and John Paul II were canonised by Pope Francis Sunday in Vatican City, the country's official news network News.VA said.
A huge crowd gathered in St. Peter's Square and surrounding vantage points to see a historic ceremony.
Pope Francis read the formal proclamation at a canonisation mass which was also attended by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, Francis' predecessor.
