China on Saturday criticized the joint attack carried out by the US, the UK and France in Syria and said it violated the UN Charter, complicating further the conflict's solution.

Any unilateral military action that bypassed the United Nations Security Council violated the basic principles and norms of international law, a statement from Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said.

"Such an action also added new and complicated factors to finding a solution to the situation in Syria," she said.
