Jordan Sunday confirmed a new death due to Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus infection thus putting the toll at six in the country, health ministry stated.

The victim was a nurse who worked at a private hospital in the region, Xinhua reported.

Eleven MERS cases have been detected in Jordan since 2012, out of which six have died.

The MERS outbreak has caused panic throughout the region, prompting the government to launch awareness campaigns and take precautionary measures in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus.
