A journalist was shot at by unidentified assailants who tried to rob him in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj district, police said on Tuesday. The scribe was critically wounded in the incident.
The incident took place on Monday evening when Deepak Gupta was on his way to pick up his wife from the primary school at Malkanthour where she works as a teacher.
While driving back home on his scooter, he was ambushed by motorbike-borne miscreants between Hasanpur and Chidharua, police said. The attackers shot at him at point bank range.
His wife raised an alarm following which Gupta was rushed to a hospital while the assailants sped away.
Police said it appeared to be a result of a robbery attempt.
"We are, however, trying to get the background of the victim and are finding out if he had enmity with someone," an official said. In the past six months, there have been a series of attacks on journalists.
