Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung Wednesday reviewed the renovation and restoration project currently underway at the Tibbia College and Hospital here.
In a meeting held at Raj Niwas with the hospital representatives, and the health and public works department secretaries, Jung asked the senior officials to "put in their best efforts to re-energize" the prominent ayurvedic and unani college and hospital.
"By 2016 the college and hospital must be restored to its erstwhile glory, not only in terms of its infrastructure but more so in terms of its academic and research output," Jung said.
Established in 1916, the Tibbia College and Hospital celebrates its centenary in 2016.
Jung had sanctioned a grant of Rs.5 crore in Sep 2014 for restoring the college and hospital. The restoration included renovation of buildings, upgradation and modernisation of out-patient department (OPD) facilities, laboratories and hostels.
The health secretary told Jung that as part of the upgradation plan, seats in the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) and Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) programmes have been increased from 44 to 60, and a career and placement cell has also been set up in the college.
While in the hospital, computerised registration has been initiated for the OPD and in-patient department, the building's facade has been repainted and the herbal garden spruced up.
