The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) on Monday urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to lift the ban on now exonerated former Indian pace bowler S. Sreesanth.

Speaking to IANS, KCA president and BCCI vice president T.C. Mathew said the KCA had written to both the secretary and the president of the BCCI in this regard.

"We have requested them that in the light of the court itself exonerating Sreesanth from the case, the ban imposed on him be lifted. Now we will wait for the response," said Mathew.

But for Sreesanth, the first relief has already come and he has been allowed to practice at the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium here.

"He met me today and he looked very excited and happy about being exonerated in the case," added Mathew.

A Delhi trial court on Saturday cleared Sreesanth of all charges in the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) spot fixing scandal.

The 32-year-old right-armer arrived in his home town here on Sunday and in the evening, for the first time since being entangled in the now non-existent case, he had a practice session at his former club's nets and said that in three weeks' time he would be match fit.

The KCA is hoping that Sreesanth will be able to play for Kerala in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season.
