Outgoing Kerala governor Nikhil Kumar, who put in his papers late Tuesday night, is likely to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls from his home state Bihar.
IANS was the first to report last month that Nikhil Kumar would return to active politics and contest from his "family" constituency Aurangabad in Bihar.
Nikhil Kumar, 72, was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha having won on a Congress ticket from Aurangabad constituency.
His father Satyendra Narayan Sinha, a former chief minister of Bihar, was a seven-time member of parliament from Aurangabad, once represented by Nikhil Kumar's wife Shyama Singh.
He was sworn in as governor of Kerala March 23, 2013. The 1963 batch IPS officer held positions like commissioner of police in Delhi, besides serving as director of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and also the National Security Guard.
A source close to the former governor told IANS Wednesday that he would leave here by the end of the week. Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj would be in charge of Kerala till the new appointee is sworn-in.
